Fort-Bragg
is located on the scenic Mendocino Coast, north of San Francisco, between the towns of Mendocino and Garberville. For visitors arriving on Highway 1, don't let the first glimpse of town fool you; from the road the community looks like it's not much more than a series of strip malls. Once you drive off the highway into the town, however, Fort Bragg becomes a seafaring town surrounded by redwood forests and filled with fine homes and beautiful gardens overflowing with colorful flowers. The attractions in the area are many. Noyo Harbor, just south of town, is a quaint fishing village with great seafood restaurants and charter fishing boats. The Skunk Train in Fort Bragg runs for 40 miles between Fort Bragg and the town of Willits along U.S. Highway 101 through the Redwoods. The train crosses 30 bridges and trestles along the scenic route, as well as through one deep mountain tunnel. Another must see is the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens - the only public garden in the U.S. that is located directly on the ocean. From thunderous waves to year-round displays of rhododendrons, azaleas, hydrangeas, daisies and ferns, the Gardens make a gorgeous place for a stroll and a picnic. Spend a day at Glass Beach near Fort Bragg, collecting sea glass and exploring tide pools, or visit the Jug Handle State Reserve, Russian Gulch State Park and the Navarro River Redwoods State Park. Fort Bragg also holds a colorful Farmer's Market in downtown every Wednesday from late May through October.

Fort Bragg Weather & Climate

The rugged northern Pacific Coast, north of the San Francisco Bay Area, experiences a mild climate year round. There is very little variation in temperature from winter, spring, summer and fall. Summers are dry, but typically cool and foggy right along the coast. Further inland, near the Anderson Valley, temperatures will be warmer with more sunny days. Be advised that it can be in the 60s in the Mendocino coast area, and just 30 miles inland the temperature can be in the 90s. Cool ocean breezes and a thick marine layer helps moderate coastal temperatures. If visiting during wintertime, there is a good chance it will rain during your stay. November through March are the wettest months. Fall is generally the sunniest time along the northern Pacific Coast.
