Caspar
is a small community that sits along California Highway 1, between Fort Bragg and Mendocino. Located in what is known as the Redwood Region of the state and at the mouth of Caspar Creek, this little village is a "ghost town" of sorts. Remnants of it's beginnings as a "company" town for the Caspar Lumber Company are everywhere, from pilings of the old lumber mill, to the beautiful old home that was once the residence of the company manager. Nearby parks and recreation in the area include the Russian Gulch State Park, the Caspar Headlands State Reserve, and the Mendocino Woodlands State Park. The parks offer plenty of hiking and biking trails, fishing, swimming, skin diving and more. Russian Gulch State Park contains a unique collapsed sea cave known as "Devil's Punch Bowl." Caspar has two beautiful beaches where you can watch for migrating gray whales or explore the tide pools. Be sure to bring a camera to catch the unusual sculpted rocks on film! If you're looking for a place to unwind, away from all the tourist crowds, Caspar "the friendly ghost town" is an inviting place to stop and stay a while.

Caspar Weather & Climate

The rugged northern Pacific Coast, north of the San Francisco Bay Area, experiences a mild climate year round. There is very little variation in temperature from winter, spring, summer and fall. Summers are dry, but typically cool and foggy right along the coast. Further inland, near the Anderson Valley, temperatures will be warmer with more sunny days. Be advised that it can be in the 60s in the Mendocino coast area, and just 30 miles inland the temperature can be in the 90s. Cool ocean breezes and a thick marine layer helps moderate coastal temperatures. If visiting during wintertime, there is a good chance it will rain during your stay. November through March are the wettest months. Fall is generally the sunniest time along the northern Pacific Coast.
