Orick
is a small village in Northern California's Humboldt County, nestled near the mouth of Redwood Creek and surrounded by the Redwood National and State Park. It is also near the Humboldt Lagoons State Park and the Prairie Creek Redwood State Park. This is one of the most remote, yet scenic areas of Northern California, where the waterways, parks, creeks and lagoons provide a perfect setting for hiking, kayaking, birdwatching and other outdoor pursuits. Near Orick, the Lady Bird Johnson Grove, on Bald Hills Road, is a great place for a leisurely hike on a self-guided interpretive trail through a grove of old growth redwoods. On past the grove is a series of grasslands known by locals as the "Bald Hills Prairies," where blue lupines grow wild in the springtime. A hike through Fern Canyon is also a breathtaking experience, where you can sometimes see elk ambling along the creek bed. Other activities in the Orick area include horseback riding, camping, fishing for salmon and steelhead and exploring the Pacific Ocean tide pools. Orick is home to two full service restaurants and one burger bar and offers a variety of lodging choices, including a historic inn that overlooks the Klamath River as it approaches the Pacific Ocean. Vacation rental homes, bed and breakfasts inns, cabins nestled among the Redwoods and motels are also located in the Orick region.

Northwest California ,near the Pacific Ocean, has a cool weather climate year round. Summer temperatures are usually in the 60s and rarely exceed 80 degrees. Unlike many other parts of the state, rain can be expected almost any month of the year, although the official rainy season runs October through early April. The average annual rainfall is 75 inches per year. Located near the Pacific Ocean, this region frequently experiences low clouds and fog right along the coastline, with clearing the further inland you travel. The same cool, ocean mists that nurture the giant redwoods of the region provide relief for visitors who come to the area to escape the summer heat of the interior valleys. Fall is often the warmest and sunniest season of the year.
