Lake-Almanor is one of the largest man-made lakes in California and is known as the Gateway to the Lassen Volcanic National Park. Located in Plumas County, where 1,000 of the 1,600 acres in this county are unspoiled national forest land, Lake Almanor sits against a backdrop of gorgeous mountain scenery. The lake offers swimming and boating, water skiing, hiking, biking and camping. Fishing in Lake Almanor is available year round, and is excellent, but especially so in spring for salmon and trout. There are several other streams and rivers in the Lake Almanor area, including the Middle Fork of the Feather River, which has been named a National Wild & Scenic River. Golf is another popular sport at Lake Almanor, where you'll find several courses set in beautiful, lush natural settings. Wintertime brings skiing, snowboarding and other outdoors sports to the lake, and autumn in Lake Almanor is dazzling when the mountains are set ablaze with color. Several nearby towns offer shopping and dining, and lodging is a mixture of everything from bed & breakfasts and inns, to a stay at a guest ranch or resort! Lake Almanor is a jewel in the northern California wilderness and a great place to spend your next vacation!

Lake Almanor Weather & Climate

North Central California near Mount Lassen and the Shasta Trinity National Forest has sunny, hot summers and a variety of winter conditions, depending on the elevation. The geography of the region is volcanic areas and wetlands to the west and high desert to the east. The last volcanic activity at Mount Lassen was in 1915. Summer temperatures at the lower elevations sometime climb above the 100-degree mark, but higher elevations tend to have much cooler temperatures. Very little, if any, rain falls in northeast/north central California in the summertime, and lightening storms, with no precipitation, is possible. Winter is the rainy season, with cool, wet conditions in the foothills region and snow in the higher elevations. Spring weather can be unstable with both rain and mild, sunny days. Fall days are generally mild and sunny with cool nights.
