Laguna-Niguel is a beautiful city located in Orange County between Capistrano Beach and Laguna Hills along the Crown Valley Parkway. It began in 1890 when a wealthy landowner named Lewis Moulton purchased 8,000 acres called Niguel Ranch. Part of that ranch was turned into the community of Laguna Niguel, which was incorporated in 1989 as Orange County's 29th city. The towns of Dana Point, Laguna Beach, Laguna Hills, Mission Viejo and San Juan Capistrano, surround Laguna Niguel, on what is commonly called the "Gold Coast" of southern California. The city spans 9,421 acres, and is built on a hillside with 65 percent open space. Laguna Niguel is filled with a variety of shops, restaurants, lodging establishments and 29 parks and recreational areas for hiking, biking, horseback riding, picnicking and golf. Also, Laguna Niguel's close proximity to the coast provides additional beach activities such as swimming, sunning, surfing, boating, sailing and beachcombing. The Aliso and Wood Canyons Regional Park lies at the south end of the Laguna Greenbelt. Here, the caves are etched with petroglyphs left by the native people, and a visit to these cool canyons leave visitors with a peaceful, pastoral feeling that is unmatched in Orange County. Another popular attraction in Laguna Niguel is the Orange County Natural History Museum, offering natural history exhibits, free community lecture series and programs for the entire family.

Laguna Niguel Weather & Climate

The Southern Pacific coastline, between Los Angeles and San Diego, enjoys some of the most beautiful weather in the state year round. This region boasts over 300 days of sunshine per year, balmy days and cool evenings - perfect for beachcombing, tennis, golf and other outdoor activities. The rainy season runs November through early April, with dry conditions and low humidity the rest of the year. It's not unusual to go all summer with no precipitation at all. Low clouds and fog are usually present right along the coastline on warmer summer days, but clears up by early afternoon. The summer heat is moderated by cool ocean breezes, but keep in mind that as you travel inland away from the cooling effect of the ocean, the temperatures rise (although not to uncomfortable levels.) Thunderstorms in this area are infrequent and light.
