Kenwood
is a small town located in the Somona Valley wine country. It's in a very scenic area of the state, surrounded by rolling hills and vineyards, near several lakes and state parks. To reach Kenwood, travel northeast of San Francisco on Highway 101 for approximately 50 miles to State Route 12 - Kenwood is between the town of Sonoma and the city of Santa Rosa. The community of Kenwood is home to Sugarloaf Ridge State Park, where the headwaters of the Sonoma Creek run through beautiful gorge and canyon, then on across the meadow floor beneath spectacular rock outcroppings. The park consists of 2,000 acres with 25 miles of hiking trails, and a self-guided nature trail that runs alongside Sonoma Creek. On a clear day, visitors can see the Sierra Nevada Mountains and even the Golden Gate Bridge from the summit of Bald Mountain (at 2,729 feet above sea level.) Other recreational opportunities in the area can be found at Lake Berryessa, the Los Posadas State Forest, Booth Napa Valley State Park and the historic Jack London State Park in Glen Ellen. The town of Kenwood is just seven miles from the city of Santa Rosa, which is the largest city in Sonoma County and offers museums, art galleries, antique shops and fine restaurants. Several hot springs are located near Kenwood, along with numerous wineries and challenging golf courses. Kenwood is approximately 30 miles west of Napa and 40 miles east of the seaside village of Bodega Bay.

The northern end of the Napa Valley wine country is just an hour and a half north of San Francisco. Autumn is considered by many to be the best time to visit the wine country. This is when vines are in full color and the harvest is taking place, and the weather is delightful. Warm, sunny dry afternoons and cool evenings are the norm for autumn. The rainy season runs November through March, with January and February having the most rain. Temperatures are cool in winter at night, but rarely go below the freezing mark. The Napa Valley region is hotter than the San Francisco area in the summertime, although not unbearable because there is little or no humidity. In spring when temperatures are mild, and new vines are budding is a popular time for bicycling through the area.
