June-Lake
is a resort community located in the eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains of central California, near Yosemite National Park. A chain of lakes, connected by State Route 158, is known as the June Lake Loop, and includes June Lake, Gull Lake, Silver Lake and Grant Lake. Unbelievable mountain scenery and a multitude of outdoor recreational activities is what you'll find at June Lake. Both alpine and cross-country skiing, snowboarding, and snowmobiling are available, and in the summertime there's trout fishing, boating, swimming, sailing, mountain biking, hiking, rock climbing, camping and more. June Lake Village lies on the shores of June Lake, with a quaint downtown area of shops, restaurants, several lodges and taverns. June Lake is considered ideal for sailing and sail boarding, and also has two marinas and a popular swimming beach on the northeast end of the lake. Of the four lakes, Gull Lake is the most popular for fishing. The Gull Lake Marina offers boat rentals, a free boat launch, tackle and other supplies and food and drinks. The splendor of Yosemite National Park is just minutes away, with its' numerous waterfalls, lakes, streams, meadows and unusual rock formations, such as the granite monoliths of Half Dome and El Capitan. Mammoth Lakes, a resort area that has become known as "the culinary capital of the Sierra Nevada," is also near June Lake.

June Lake Weather & Climate

The Central Sierra Nevada Mountains , near Yosemite National Park, experiences four exciting seasons. Summers are warm to hot with occasional rain or thunderstorms (especially in the higher elevations.) Fall is variable with conditions that can run from warm to cold, wet to dry to snowy. Most of Yosemite National Park stays open through November, but short-term closures can occur due to snow. Winter in the Central Sierra Nevada Mountains is very snowy and cold. The amounts and intensity of storms can be quite severe at elevations above 7,000 feet. Tire chains are often required on many of the mountain roads in winter. Spring is sunny and relatively mild but can still experience a snowstorm. With rains and snow melt, spring is one of the best times to see the many beautiful waterfalls in the area.
