Blue-Lake
is a small town of approximately 1,100 residents, located near the town of Eureka in the extreme northwest portion of the state. At one time, there actually was a "blue lake" created by a flood of the Mad River located just south of the downtown area. This historic lake is now a small freshwater marsh of about 3.5 acres. The charming village of Blue Lake is home to a spa and the Blue Lake Museum and host to the annual Dell'Arte Mad River Festival in June. The town is located in the heart of one of the most scenic natural areas of the state, near several national and state parks, as well as the ocean. Recreational opportunities available near Blue Lake include bicycle riding trails, fishing in clear lakes and rivers, golf, bird watching, hiking trails, kayaking, swimming, white water rafting and golf. Blue Lake is near the Six Rivers National Forest and Redwood National Park. The National Forest includes 366 miles of wild, scenic rivers and six botanical areas. Nearby Eureka is a historic seaport town known for its Victorian architecture and museums and its restored Old Town that offers horse-drawn carriage rides, specialty and antique shops and restaurants. Other attractions near Blue Lake include the Humboldt County Bay Maritime Museum and Fort Humboldt Museum and State Historical Park. Blue Lake is approximately 200 miles north of San Francisco.

Blue Lake Weather & Climate
North Central California has sunny, hot summers and mild to cool winters. Located near the Mount Shasta/Shasta Trinity National Forest, this region's climate varies greatly according to elevation. Summers are usually hot and very dry with temperatures at the lower elevations sometimes climbing above the 100-degree mark. Higher elevations tend to have much cooler temperatures and higher precipitation in summer. Fall days are very pleasant with warm temperatures and cool nights. Winter is the rainy season at the lower elevations and snow in the higher elevations. Spring weather can be unstable with both rain and mild, sunny days. Visitors should exercise caution when traveling over the mountain passes - a mild day in the valley can change to much colder temperatures, and snow and ice in the wintertime, in the higher elevations.
