Running-Springs
is a small mountain community located in the heart of the San Bernardino Mountains of southern California. Just a ninety-minute drive from Los Angeles, Running Springs is nestled 6000 feet above sea level and is centrally located between Snow Valley Ski Resort and Lake Arrowhead. Running Springs bills itself as having the best weather in the United States, with all four seasons being mild. Just a few of the year-round activities in the Running Springs area include camping, hiking, biking, swimming, boating, fishing, and hang gliding adventures. Stream fishing, off road and equestrian trails are nearby, and great alpine and cross-country skiing are less than a half-hour away. Nearby Lake Arrowhead and the San Bernardino National Forest offers a wealth of other outdoors recreational opportunities. Other places of interest in Running Springs includes the Children's Forest, Lake Arrowhead Children's Museum and the Mountain Skies Astronomical Village, which offers workshops, star watches and a science center.

Running Springs Weather & Climate

The mountains east of Los Angeles in the San Bernardino National Forest have weather conditions that vary widely depending on the elevation. The range of elevation goes from 1500 feet at the valley floor to over 11,000 feet at Mt. San Gorgonio. Generally, it is very dry and sunny in the summertime and wildfire is always a threat. In July, the forest usually enters the "very high" fire restriction level when no open campfires are allowed and smoking is only within enclosed vehicles. The rainy season begins in October, with January through March being the wettest months. Snow falls in the higher elevations. Weather can change rapidly in the mountains, so visitors are advised to come prepared for a variety of conditions.
