Mountain-Ranch
is a small community located in Calaveras County, California near the colorful Gold Rush towns of Jackson, Murphys, San Andreas and Mokeulmne Hill. Mountain Ranch had a population of 1,557 in the 2000 census, and the town is registered as a California Historical Landmark. The Sierra Nevada Mountains of Calaveras County offer crystal clear lakes and streams, towering pines and rolling hills of picturesque vineyards. More than a half dozen wineries are in the area, open for tours and wine tasting. The Stanislaus National Forest, Calaveras Big Trees State Park and Bear Valley Ski Area are nearby and just some of the recreational activities to enjoy include fishing, boating, hiking, camping, mountain biking, skiing and more. Nearby Murphys, called "The Queen of the Sierras" has a downtown full of art galleries, unique shops and restaurants. Angels Camp, which at one time was the site of one of the richest gold mining towns in California, is now famous for its annual "Frog Jumping Competition." The whole region surrounding Mountain Lake is so full of history and natural beauty; you can spend days exploring the quaint towns and beautiful countryside, discovering something different every time.

Central California ,approximately halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles, has varying climates, depending on the elevation of the area. The foothills region of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, also known as the Mother Lode or Gold Rush Country, has four seasons. Summers are hot and dry, with sunshine almost every day. Thunderstorms are possible in summertime, but uncommon. Winters are mild and cool. Elevations above 5,000 feet, near the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Forests can experience snow from November through March. The lower regions receive lots of rain during these months, and fog can sometimes be a problem. Rains tamper off in spring and temperatures are quite pleasant. Fall brings color to the hills with mild sunny days and crisp, cool nights.
