Klamath-River
is located in the northwest corner of California and the south central portion of Oregon. There is also a small town named Klamath that lies just south of the Oregon State Line between Crescent City and Eureka. The Klamath River flows right past the town. Many consider the Klamath a hidden gem as it curves its way through the volcanic Cascades and the huge red and black rock crags of the Klamath National Forest. The Lower Klamath, the part located in California, is one of the most scenic whitewater rafting trips and one of the best salmon fisheries in the state. It is also California's second-longest river. Kayaks, canoes, rafts, and, at some points, power boats travel the Klamath (which roughly translated from Chinook means "swiftness.") Salmon and steelhead attract fall and winter anglers, while trout fishing is most popular in summer. Dam-controlled flows create electrifying rapids of whitewater through Satans Gate and Hells Corner. The Klamath River is also a popular wayside for migrating birds, including blue and green herons, eagles, cormorants, and even pelicans. For a gentler float, try the Klamath from the Oregon border to Copco Lake through open country littered with remains of mines, ranches, mills, and a historic 19th century health spa. Another attraction near the town of Klamath is the Trees of Mystery and the enormous stature of Paul Bunyan.

Klamath River Weather & Climate

Northwest California , near the Oregon state line, has a fairly normal four-season climate, with variations in temperature and precipitation depending on the elevation. The Klamath River flows for 263 miles, generally southwest from Upper Klamath Lake in southwest Oregon through northwest California to the Pacific Ocean. Therefore the seasons are somewhat influenced by the Pacific Ocean. It usually always snows in the area and winter temperatures can become quite cold, however, the snow melts quickly at the lower elevations. Most precipitation is received October through March. On Mt. Shasta, the exposure to storms from the Pacific, plus its elevation, results in high winds and heavy snow accumulations. Like most of California, summers in this region tend to be warm and dry, with occasional thunderstorms at the higher elevations.
