Inverness
is located in Marin County north of San Francisco, and is the last community before entering the vast Point Reyes National Seashore. This is an area of over 72,000 acres of wilderness, beach and ranchland, but with dozens of fine hotels, cozy cabins, inns and high quality bed & breakfasts. Inverness and the surrounding West Marin villages of Point Reyes Station and Stinson Beach have quaint specialty shops and art galleries, and many restaurants, gourmet foods and deli shops. The Tomales Bay State Park near Inverness has hiking trails and is a popular place for swimming, boating, kayaking and picnicking. The park includes forests, fields and meadows, beaches and marshes with its own variety of plant life. Land and sea birds and an abundance of wildlife live in the area, so be sure to bring your binoculars. Approximately twenty minutes from Inverness is the Point Reyes Lighthouse, one of the best whale-watching points on the Pacific Coast. And the Point Reyes National Seashore offers Field Seminars, 147 miles of hiking trails, biking and horseback riding and beachcombing. Inverness has a full calendar of sailing races in the summertime, foot races on the 4th of July, and swimming lessons at Shell Beach. Other nearby points of interest includes Stinson Beach, Muir Woods, the Marine Mammal Center, and the city of San Francisco is just a short drive away.

Inverness Weather & Climate

The Northern California coast, just north of San Francisco, is a mild climate region of warm days and cool nights. Right along the coast, summers are cool and foggy and the further inland you go, the sunnier and warmer it gets. Coastal low clouds and fog usually burns off by early afternoon. There is little or no rain May through September, with the rainy season beginning in late October or November. Flooding is a problem in winter when rains are heavy within a short period of time. There is an occasional light frost in the area, but generally temperatures stay above the freezing mark. Fall is usually the sunniest season along the northern California coast without the fog of summer or the clouds and rain of winter.
