Daly-City
sits at the northernmost edge of San Mateo County, adjacent to the city of San Francisco. Known as the "Gateway to the Peninsula," Daly City extends from the Pacific Ocean on the west nearly to the San Francisco Bay on the east. The population of Daly City is approximately 103,000 and it has become a regional hub for small business, retail and health care. Attractions include the Cow Palace, which straddles the border with San Francisco and is home to the annual Grand National Rodeo, Horse & Stock Show. The Cow Palace is also host to many other types of entertainment, such as concerts and sporting events. Several golf courses are located within the area and the Golden Gate National Recreation Area includes Daly Citys Thornton Beach, which is a popular place for paragliding and hang gliding. Two public indoor swimming pools are also located in Daly City - Giammona Pool and Jefferson Pool. In addition, Daly City, along with neighboring Colma, have become a shopping mecca for San Francisco residents. The draw includes plenty of free parking and San Mateo Countys slightly lower state sales tax rate.

Mark Twain once said, "the coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco." While this might be a slight exaggeration, the climate in the San Francisco Bay Area is mild year round with cool evenings - even in the summertime. Cool breezes from the Pacific Ocean help moderate the summer heat and marine influences keep winters very mild. The San Francisco Bay Area is known for its fog, especially in the summertime. This occurs when warm air masses flow across a cooler ocean and the moisture in the air condenses and forms fog. The rainy season in northern California runs November through March, with no measurable precipitation in the summertime. Spring and fall are generally the sunniest, and warmest, seasons in the Bay area.
